Our university bid farewell to its 2024–2025 academic year graduates with a ceremony held at the 15 July Congress and Culture Center Conference Hall.
The excitement of graduation was celebrated in a meaningful ceremony that crowned academic achievements, together with students, their families, and academic staff.

The ceremony was attended by Şırnak Governor Birol Ekici, Şırnak Mayor Mehmet Yarka, our University Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış, provincial protocol members, public institution administrators, our academic and administrative staff, along with many students and their families.

The program began with a moment of silence and the Turkish National Anthem.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Şırnak Governor Birol Ekici emphasized the important role young people will play in the country's development, stating:

“Dear young people, I am proud to be among you. I recommend that you improve yourselves in every field. We are among the top 10 developing countries in the world. With the education you have received, you will contribute both to yourselves and to our country. Nowadays, communication—especially positive communication—is very important. Keep improving yourselves in your field. Be open to innovation. Şırnak is steadily advancing toward becoming the capital of petroleum. Our rector, who is from Şırnak, is doing everything possible for the development of both the city and our university. In this regard, wherever you go, you will represent us as ambassadors of our university. I congratulate you and wish you continued success—may all your dreams come true. I wish you hopeful tomorrows in your lives.”

Mayor Mehmet Yarka also addressed the young graduates, wishing for their continued success.
He said:

“You are individuals who will shape the future of this country, this city, and the world. Remember, if graduation is a door, behind it are hundreds of others. And you are the ones who will open those doors. Let your courage, honesty, and diligence be exemplary. I wish success in life to all our graduating students and hope your dreams come true.”

Our Rector Prof. Dr. Abdurrahim Alkış emphasized in his speech that the students had successfully completed an intense four-year education process, marking a significant milestone in both their professional and personal development.
Addressing the students, he said:

“You are about to complete one of the final stages of a long and challenging educational journey. You have spent the best, brightest years of your life in educational institutions. Until 100 years ago, education generally occurred between the ages of 8 and 16, allowing people to become economically independent and enter the workforce by 16 due to their productivity. However, as in most countries, the longer duration of education in our country prevents entry into the workforce at that age.

Young people! I wish our education planners could cut this duration in half. While many people between the ages of 16 and 20 spend those years in various ways, you dedicated yourselves to studying at school desks and completing different educational programs by solving thousands of questions.

If we start counting from primary school, some of you (vocational school students) studied for 14 years, and others (college and undergraduate students) for 16 years. You dedicated the most productive years of your lives, when your bodies were in their freshest state, to this pursuit. You are gradually entering the age of maturity and adulthood. Now, your families and society will expect valuable responsibilities and successful projects from you.

According to the labor force statistics announced on March 29, 2025, the number of employed individuals in the workforce is 32,597,000. This corresponds to an employment rate of 49.2%. According to the 2024 first-quarter data from the Presidency of Strategy and Budget of the Republic of Türkiye, as of March 2024, the total number of public employees was 5,238,424. Of these, 66.3% were permanent staff, 7.2% were contracted employees, and approximately 1.3 million public workers constituted 24.5% of all public personnel.

,According to the first-quarter labor statistics released by TÜİK, the employed population in Türkiye is around 32 million. Calculations show that public employees make up 16.4% of total employment in Türkiye in the first quarter of 2024. What do these numbers tell us? That private sector employment is 5 to 6 times greater than that of public institutions and organizations.

You are now graduates and representatives of this university. We have full confidence that, with the knowledge and values you have acquired, you will be individuals who shape the future of our country.”

,He also extended his gratitude to the families and academic staff who contributed to the students' success.

Our faculty takes great pride in bidding farewell to the graduates of the 2024–2025 academic year in the best way possible and wishes all our graduates a future filled with health, happiness, and success in this new chapter of their lives.
